Been using it since January. First the Beta (build 7000) then the RC (Release Candidate, which is build 7100). I still have to do a clean install with the final version (build 7600), but that's going to have to wait, as I'm purchasing a new Caviar Blue 640 GB soon (so I have two, RAID0 configuration).
Anyhow, it's always been stable, the OS that is. I had one BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) so far. It did have some bugs (software), especially under 7000. For example Windows Media Player. Constantly re-building my library and copying "new" album arts, so after a month or two the Windows Media Player settings folder took up ~4 GB, with over 6 million files (Album arts...). Luckily Microsoft has solved that problem through a Windows Update, and all should be fine with the retail.
Couldn't get my Rivatuner (Graphics card overclock utility) to run decent as well (both under 7000 and 7100), though it's doing it's job well now. UltraMon (for my Dual Monitors) is still buggy.. As are the Sidebar gadgets (which are "floating" now by the way, not docked in the "actual" sidebar anymore). The sidebar gadgets sometimes don't go "behind" the window when you've maxed a window. Could still be a beta bug, no clue.
Enough about these problems as most of these were probably Beta bugs. Windows 7 runs smoothly, everything's way faster than it was with Vista (couldn't notice this on my gaming desktop, but my 2nd desktop and laptop gained a significant boost). Also some nice GUI changes (Task bar, everything actually). If you can get your hands on it cheaply/free, and you're running Vista, I'd say go for it. Because it really is a lot better (compare it to XP with the looks of Vista). If you're running XP, and you still have ~1 GB RAM, go for it as well. I've seen machines which ran 7 better then they ran XP.

As I have been using Vista for almost a year... I uninstalled it as soon as I got my W7. And I got it for free, it's actually a bought and legal version. And I've loved it ever since, no errors, no BSODs, everything is faster compared to the Vista. MS got this one right I think, hehe.

i have had W7 for a awhile now. I unlocked some wallpapers from other countries that are built in. I have had no issues with it and it runs alot better than vista. I love the new task bar. I have 160 gb HD. 4 GB RAM 1.83 Ghz hp DV2700t, I personalized most of it, Best OS from MS besides XP.

I think the XP is faster only because it doesn't run the fancy Aero. But XP is a fast OS indeed - when you have a good system. But does XP support DirectX 11?

hitman how u got it for free? with 1 year vista? As I pay for my college, they provide their students with all kind of things. For example, our whole course got an account on a site which provides us with many Microsoft programs, with legal licenses, so I can say I got it for free, although I paid for my school in the process, lol.

I think the XP is faster only because it doesn't run the fancy Aero. But XP is a fast OS indeed - when you have a good system. But does XP support DirectX 11? Aero is using your Graphics Card, which doesn't slow down your computer, but takes load off your processor, thus making it faster. Yes, XP doesn't support DirectX 11, Windows 7 does. Doesn't mean your Graphics Card does. Unless you got a Radeon 5xxx, you don't even USE DirectX 11 (or can use it for that matter). Currently the cards supporting DirectX 10 is anything above nVidia Geforce 8 series, and ATi Radeon 2 series. ATi even supports DirectX 10.1 on some series (3xxx, 4xxx), but can only be used and utilized with some games. Besides, you're basing that Windows XP is faster, JUST because it has Aero. Fyi, Windows Vista/7 uses a whole new kernel (Seven having an "update" on the kernel). That's why everyone had the compatibility problems when they moved to Windows Vista. That's why all programs running on Windows Vista SHOULD run on Windows 7.

I got the stuff like that, lets just say, using the college computers its very handy to carry a hardrive with you. I managed to get many things from the computers, such as programs that cost over 100eu.. I didnt even pay for college, i only whent for a year then dropped out.
